When is Eid-ul-Azha 2025?

Eid-ul-Azha 2025 in Pakistan is expected to be on Friday, 6th June 2025.This date is not final because it depends on the moon sighting of Dhul Hijjah, the last month of the Islamic calendar.

What is Eid-ul-Azha 2025?

Eid-ul-Azha is an important Islamic festival celebrated by Muslims in many countries around the world. It falls on the 10th of Dhul Hijjah according to the Muslim calendar, and in 2025, it is expected to begin on the evening of Friday, June 6, and end on Tuesday, June 10. This public holiday marks a time of celebration, faith, and submission to Allah, as it honors the story of Prophet Ibrahim (AS) and his son Ismail (AS). The story is mentioned in the Quran, specifically in Surah As-Saffat (37:102), and it shows their deep belief and trust in Allah’s command.

On this blessed day, Muslims perform qurbani (animal sacrifice) as a demonstration of faith and to help those in need. They may slaughter a sheep, goat, camel, or lamb, just like Ibrahim was ready to do. The Hadith of Prophet Mohammad (S.A.W.), recorded in An-Nasai (1556) and Bukhari (1995), reminds us that Fasting is forbidden on this day, as it is a time of joy. The significance of Eid ul-Adha is great, and it is considered better than the festivals of non-believers. It is a permanent part of Muslim’s spiritual life, meant for remembrance, celebration, and strong connection with Islam all over the world.

The Story Behind Eid-ul-Azha

Growing up, Eid always brought a feeling of joy and deep faith. But Eid-ul-Azha holds a unique place in my heart because it tells a story of sacrifice, obedience, and trust in Allah. The Quran shares the powerful moment when Prophet Ibrahim had a dream. In it, Allah asked him to give up his son Ismail to show his devotion. It wasn’t just a test, and it was a symbol of putting love for God above everything else. But just as he was ready, Allah replaced Ismail with a ram. That powerful moment became the heart of this Islamic festival we now honour as Eid-ul-Azha.

What Do People Do on Eid-ul-Azha 2025?

Every year, millions of Muslims around the world gather with family to offer Qurbani, or animal sacrifice. It’s not only about the act of slaughtering a sheep, goat, camel, or cow. It’s about following the steps of Ibrahim and remembering the true meaning behind the ritual. I remember watching my father carefully select a healthy animal, making sure it met the right age, health, and halal conditions. The rules are precise; the meat is divided into three parts, one for us, one for our friends, and one for those in need. It’s one of the rare times you see both charity and feast in such perfect balance.

How Families Celebrate Together

On the 10th day of Dhul Hijja, the day begins with Eid prayers at the mosque, where we listen to a sermon, stand shoulder to shoulder, and pray as one. Everyone dresses in new clothes, feeling fresh and connected. After the prayers, it’s common to greet others with Eid Mubarak, share gifts, and invite each other for meals. Even though celebrations may differ from one country to another, the values of togetherness, respect, and goodwill stay the same. I’ve always felt that sense of warmth in the air. when people smile, embrace, and remember those less fortunate.

Hajj, Mecca, and the Real Meaning of Eid ul-Azha

Not many can travel to Makkah, but those who do perform Hajj a pilgrimage and a core pillar of Islam. Eid-ul-Azha marks the final day of Hajj, when Muslims gather around the Ka’bah, the sacred monument, built by Ibrahim. As a child, I would watch live broadcasts showing the sea of pilgrims in white circling the Ka’bah, and I’d dream of going there one day. Back home, even if we’re not in Mecca, we reflect, pray, and renew our devotion to Allah. It’s not just about the feast it’s about giving up your desires, sharing your wealth, and connecting deeply with the spirit of the festival.

Qurbani Rules and Importance – Eid ul Azha 2025

Qurbani, also called animal sacrifice, is a very important part of Eid ul Adha. It follows the Sunnah of Prophet Ibrahim (A.S.) and our beloved Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.). Some scholars say that Qurbani is a confirmed Sunnah, while others believe it is Wajib (obligatory) for those who can afford it.

Offering sacrifice in the way of Allah is a great act of worship. It brings a person closer to Allah (SWT).

Abu Hurairah (R.A.) reported that Prophet (S.A.W.) said:

“Whoever can afford it [sacrifice], but does not offer a sacrifice, let him not come near our prayer place.”
(Ibn Majah: 3123)

This Hadith clearly shows the importance of Qurbani in Islam. It is a warning for those who have the means but still ignore this duty on Eid al Adha.
